Sheffield's Fabulous Food Havens

Image
Hello my lovely blog readers, I realise I've been a bit M.I.A lately and my apologies for that, life has just seemed to speed up and pile on more to my To Do lists lately and I've just really wanted to hide away from it all and press pause for a bit but one of those annoying 'adult-y' lessons I've been forced to learn over the past few years is this is as unobtainable as it is desirable. So I'll just pop into to say hi and then burrow back into my assessment attempts and ongoing world weariness whilst counting down the days until things I'm actually looking forward to.  I hope this post finds you well and provides an opportunity to sit down and relax, take time out of your busy student schedules and learn a little bit about one of the most important aspects of university life: Food. For most students coming to university is a time full of new things and independence and one of these new things can involve the first time you cook for yourself an

* WARNING CONTAINS POTENTIALLY TRIGGERING REFERENCES TO SUICIDE ATTEMPTS AND SELF-HARM* Evening folks, I find myself as per usual cramming in far too many late night tasks before I can properly set my mind to rest and hibernate until the next day rudely beginnings. However whilst my brain perhaps does not appreciate last minute reading it has enjoyed the time for reflection on what was a long but brilliant day (which is what my life mainly seems to consist of at the moment). My third year at university at the moment seems to be filled with a never ending To Do list and not enough time in which to complete it all, and whilst it can be exciting to be involved in lots of things, I confess I do frequently teeter on the brink of feeling overwhelmed by the amount I have on personally and course wise. Yet despite this my day today involved a good kind of busyness, the kind I am happy to surrender moments of rest to because I am invested in the outcome of the task.  Today

Speaking Out and Surviving

Hey there my lovely blog readers :) I hope this blog post finds you well and enjoying a relaxing or exciting weekend in just the way you want to. Today I'm going to deviate a little from my 'more traditional' style of blog posts that centre around rambling accounts of monthly exploits. This is because I would like to take the opportunity to write to you about mental health, which is a subject those of you well acquainted with my blog (or me) will know is close to my heart and never far from my tongue. For me it is always important to talk about mental health as it is still a topic within our society that has far too close a link with secrecy and shame, on both a personal and public level. But considering that today is World Mental Health Day it seems even more important to use this time to  increase awareness, understanding and respect of mental health and mental health issues. Especially since as much as mental health issues are gaining more recognition the actual fact

September Shenanigans, The Ninth Alphabetical Instalment and The Start of Third Year

'Sup blog readers?  Hope you are all faring well. Surprisingly enough since I landed back on English soil at the end of the first week of September I have not really had many quiet moments to stop, relax and write this blog post. Then I suddenly realised there's only a few days of the month left and I better fill you all in on what I've been up to. So here we go. Sheffield has welcomed me back beautifully and one month on it feels like the time has flown by. 1. Saying Goodbye to Italy- As as of you who follow me on twitter or are friends with me on Facebook are sick of hearing I spent this summer Au Pairing in Italy which was a dream come true for me and despite being the most challenging surreal thing I've ever done to date it was so hard to say goodbye to my family there and the friends I'd made. I will definitely have to plan a return trip soon and despite all the tears and hugs I have Whatsapp and Skype to keep me sane and help improve my marginally-be

More Au Pairing Updates and The 8th Alphabetical Instalment

Ciao my lovely blog readers,   I hope this blog post finds you well and relaxed as summer should be a time for a little peace and quiet when you can get it. I can't quite believe I'm sitting down writing this August orientated post. How on earth is it August already??? Where has this long time off that university studies gives me gone? And as tomorrow is the 13th August it makes sense to mark a month of me being in Italy with another catch up. The past month has flown by and dragged in equal measure so siting down and realising I only have 26 days left in the country of my soul is one that arouses a vast variety of emotions. On the one hand I feel like time is running out when I've finally started to get settled here and there's still so much I want to do BUT I'm also looking forward to a change of place, an escape of Mosquitos, a mental break and return to familiar places. And the continual emails about reading lists and preparations for my last year of unive

My Italian Love Affair, Au Pair Exploits and Alphabetical Instalment Número 7

Ciao a tutti! This belated blog post is coming at ya from my adopted homeland and current place of residence/work: Italy! As usual I've got crazy busy and only remembered at the end of the month that you're all waiting for an update. So here you go my dears.  I've been here nearly 3 weeks now and it still hasn't completely sunk in yet that I am here for real, I'm moving about in a slightly surreal dream like state whilst simultaneously feeling at home and missing family, friends and cake. The last time I wrote to you I was snug in my Sheffield abode, bustling about with saying goodbyes, working University Open Days and completing last minute preparations for my continental relocation. It's strange now three weeks on thinking back to that Monday morning journey on the13th July when I took a tram, train, bus, plane, and car before finally arriving at my destination. My head was full of worries from making sure I made all my connections, to whether my bag

Hello hello my lovely readers, I hope this blog post finds you faring well this July evening as I catch you up all my June going-ons and offer up a 6th Alphabetical Instalment for your perusal.  My apologies for this blog post appearing mid-July after promising you last time with the arrival of summer there would be a higher frequency of blogging. However I have quickly discovered that the busyness doesn't end when term finishes and whilst this has kept me from boredom it has also kept me from blogging, I shall try and get back into the swing of things soon my dears with an exciting few blog posts being planned. If not you'll just have a few bumper editions to look forward to :D Now on with the post! Here is a brief overview of my June exploits for your enjoyment. Are you sitting comfortably? Then let's begin. 1. Exams and Assessments Finished The beginning of June saw my exam done and my last assessment of second year handed in which was a big relief because as
